Neurosurgery is the surgical specialty concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of disorders which affect the nervous system and its supporting structures such as the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, the spinal column and the neurovascular system.
  • Do I need a referral?

Yes, your general practitioner (GP) or another specialist needs to refer you. Under the Health Insurance Act 1973 you are not eligible for a MediCare rebate if a valid referral has not been made. A GP referral is valid for a year, from another specialist for 3 months. GP’s can use a secure system called Medical Objects (link to http://www.medical- objects.com.au/) to make a secure, realtime electronic referral Following your referral we will contact you to discuss your appointment and a suitable time with you.
  • What should I bring?

Please bring a list of all current medications, alternative remedies, all previous scans and other relevant medical reports.
  • What happens at the initial consultation?

You will receive a friendly welcome by the reception staff. I will obtain a thorough history, take a careful examination and review or book necessary special investigations We will then discuss your problem, its treatment options and agree on a treatment plan This initial consultation usually takes approximately 30 minutes. Within 2-3 working days a letter will be sent to your GP explaining our consultation
  • What fees are involved and when do I pay?

My rooms will contact you and discuss all fees before your consultation Fees are payable by EFTPOS after your consultation You will need to claim your MediCare rebate back from MediCare.
  • Why do I need to pay extra?

I aim to deliver the best care possible and hold myself to the highest standard. The Medicare rebate does not reflect this, creating the so called “gap” Courtesy of the AMA.
